Car Hire Alicante Spain

Alicante is the capital of the province of Alicante. Although a great many people will visit the beach and be very happy with that, this area of Spain offers a great more. Primarily the Costa Blanca is known for it’s tourism and a lot of British will simply stay within resort, only venturing out on organised coach trips. Although these can help you to get your bearings, they are built for the masses, so you either end up visiting somewhere of no interest for too long, or somewhere of interest for too short a time.

So why not rent a car. There are a number of companies based at the international airport, both local companies and well know international brands. These can be booked before travelling, in most cases the savings are considerable.

So given you have the freedom of the road, what do you do with it? Firstly, the beaches – try those at San Juan, Saladares-Urbanova, El Postiguet, Albufuerta, El Cabo de las Huertas (nudist) and Tabaraca Island off the Valencian coast.

How about some culture? Then try the Castillo de Santa Barbara, which overlooks the city from a cliff and some other religious landmarks including the Santa María Church and the Santa Faz Monastery. Mercado central is great find for the architecture of Juan Vidal.

A little further afield? How about a day trip to see the Natural Reserve of La Albufera to see the migatory birds - this is about 11kms south of Valencia. The Cueva Agua Delce (freshwater caves ) are just to the east of Denia and are a must see, along with the two lakes.

For those who like things a little faster, the Terra Mitica park will appeal to children and active adults. Try the Magnus Colossus, a great wooden rollercoster or for those a little more delicate how about the Bravo train. The park is located near to Benidorm and an easy drive from anywhere in the Costa Blanca.
